David Hilliard (né le 15 mai 1942) est un ancien membre du Black Panther Party, ayant été chef de cabinet. Il est devenu instructeur invité à l'Université du Nouveau-Mexique en 2006. Il est également le fondateur de la fondation Dr. Huey P. Newton.
Hilliard s'est impliqué dans le mouvement Black Panther en 1966 alors qu'il vivait à Oakland, en Californie. Huey P. Newton, l'ami d'enfance de Hilliard l'a informé de cette organisation que Bobby Seale et lui fondaient. Cette organisation croyait en la défense des groupes minoritaires par tous les moyens nécessaires et suivait un plan en 10 points décrivant « Ce que nous voulons » et « Ce que nous croyons ». Les premières actions des Black Panthers consistaient à intercepter des brutalités policières en utilisant des armes pour faire respecter les règles de conduite de la police.

Après l'arrestation de Huey Newton le 28 octobre 1967, pour une bagarre armée avec la police d'Oakland entraînant la mort de l'officier John Frey, David Hilliard a agi en tant que chef par intérim des Black Panthers. Hilliard a ensuite aidé à organiser un rassemblement en février. 1968 appelé le "Free Huey Rally" qui a attiré 6 000 personnes.

David Hilliard (born May 15, 1942) is a former member of the Black Panther Party, having served as Chief of Staff. He became a visiting instructor at the University of New Mexico in 2006. He also is the founder of the Dr. Huey P. Newton foundation.

Hilliard became involved in the Black Panther movement in 1966 while living in Oakland, California. Huey P. Newton, Hilliard's childhood friend informed him of this organization which Bobby Seale and he were founding. This organization believed in defense of minority groups by any means necessary and followed a 10-point plan outlining "What We Want" and "What We Believe." Early actions of the Black Panthers involved intercepting in police brutalities through using arms to enforce police rules of conduct.

After the arrest of Huey Newton on October 28, 1967, for an armed scuffle with the Oakland Police resulting in the death of Officer John Frey, David Hilliard acted as the interim leader of the Black Panthers.Hilliard helped to then organize a rally in February 1968 called the "Free Huey Rally" that drew 6,000 people.
